Puzzle #1

Consider this situation: an unstoppable force colliding with an immovable object. Assuming the two states are perfect, what would happen?

A friend asked this puzzle. We got no definite answer.

Physics explains that this phenomenon could never happen, since no one can produce an unstoppable force. Force is mass multiplied by acceleration. Hence, either or both of the mass and acceleration be infinity which is physically not possible. Quantum Physics cannot support the said phenomenon as well if it were to be treated to happen theoretically. This unstoppable force should reach the speed of light to attain an infinitesimal force which is essentially unstoppable in sense. This is impossible by the laws of Physics since the speed of light is unattainable.

Theoretically, it could either be a total annihilation or a perfectly silent implosion. Annihilation in a sense that all the forces of the two opposing states were converted into other forms of matter and energy. Implosion in that the immovable object absorbed all the energy given off by the unstoppable force.

Still arriving at a no definite point.

The Missing Link

Charles Darwin first drew theories of man evolving from apes. It was a product of vigorous research and a lot of explorations to have proofs for his 'Theory of Evolution'.

Technological advancements made it possible for Darwin's theory to come in hand. DNA samples ancient remains were put into research to find out how we had possibly evolved to complexity. But there was a glitch. It was discovered that a chain of nucleic acids were not present to support the human evolution theory, the missing link.

Excerpt from Social Science Class of Ms. Cherry Joy Billedo:

There is truth behind the missing link, and that DNA samples providing proofs for this might be found beneath the ocean floors. Apes as we know are vulnerable creatures, and if the theory of evolution implies that we came from apes, then those apes must have developed a way to protect themselves from their predators. Apes might have lived and evolved to sustain their lives underwater. This way, living might have been easier for them.

There are proofs for this theory: (1) Modern human nose is pointed downwards, not allowing water to easily flow in; (2) human legs are longer than those of apes' for pedal in water; (3) human skin has less hair allowing less drag as we swim into the water; (4) newborns are capable of 'breathing' underwater - we even lived inside a womb full of no-air.

Tips on Taking UPCAT

Oblation

The University of the Phlippines holds its entrance examinations August every year. This year, it will be on August 7 to August 8 on various exam centers all over the country.

UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test) usually consists of four parts - English, Filipino, Math and Science. Questions may be written in Tagalog or in English. It's a right minus wrong examination; only a quarter of the total mistaken items will be deducted from your total score.

Here are a few tips and things to ponder before taking the exam:
1. Review the basics, especially geometry for Mathematics.
2. Prepare to encounter ideas from the activists.
3. Eat bananas before taking the exam. Studies show that bananas improve score by a small percentage.
4. Bring along a bottle of water in the examination room. Don't bring snacks. It will just cut your time answering problems, and might make you feel bloated and uncomfortable. So better be satiated before you sit and shade those circles.
5. Though the exam is 'right minus wrong', never miss an item. Points to be deducted will just be a quarter of the total mistakes; which means one correct guess is worth four wrong guesses.
6. Flex your butt. You'll be sitting for six hours.
